What do people with a particular certification really earn? It’s one of the first things people want to know about certification – how it will affect their paycheck. Although every case is individual, affected by a variety of factors such as years of experience, geographic location, and industry, there is still enough certification-specific compensation information available to help answer that question, and we are excited to bring some of it to GoCertify.com. Now you will now find frequently updated charts showing salary figures related to specific certifications on the individual certification pages, a little more than halfway down. You can click on the charts to access even more charts.
Take a peek for yourself:
Right now only the most popular IT certifications feature a salary chart, but we hope to add additional charts over time. We hope you enjoy this new GoCertify feature.

Evidence suggests that IT job openings are still out there, although perhaps not at the pay levels we would like to receive. According to a recent survey of 2,800 (1,593 US) information security professionals conducted by (ISC)2, managers are hiring despite the current economic doom and gloom and budget cuts; however, they are having a hard time finding candidates with the desired skills who will accept the salaries that are budgeted. In addition, analysis of the most recent (May 2009) U.S. employment numbers by David Foote, CEO of IT workforce analyst firm Foote Partners, LLC, reveals bright spots in the IT job market as well ‑ while both the computer systems design and related job services and the hosting services segments of the workforce lost a substantial number of jobs, Foote assures us that “the recession has had minimal impact on demand for IT skills and jobs in the areas such as architecture, project management, business process, security, communications, several ERP and infrastructure specializations.”
So there are definitely some rays of sunshine out there. If you happen to be in one of the less sunny sectors, then it’s time to consider a lateral move, and certification can be a great way to make it happen. Decide where you want to go, and be sure to check the jobs really are out there by visiting sites such as the DICE job board and doing a little test job hunting. Then use the GoCertify Certification Advisor to obtain a list of relevant certifications, select one, and use it as a blueprint for learning. Even if you end up staying right where you are employment‑wise, you’ll have enhanced your skills and added something to your resume that shows you know how to keep on learning, a valuable asset to any IT worker.
