Certification Summary:
For entry-level technicians who perform tasks such as installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and basic networking. Security, safety and environmental issues, and communication and professionalism are also covered. By offering certification options for specific job scenarios, the CompTIA A+ certification gives individuals the ability to grow their careers in a certain area.

Initial requirements:
You must pass two exams: a core essentials exam ($168), and one specialized exam ($168). Specialized exams cover material related to specific job roles such as as IT Technician, Remote Support Technician, and Depot Technician, among others. Training is available but not required.

Continuing requirements:
If you earn or have earned this certification before Dec 31, 2010, your certification never has to be renewed and stays valid for life. As of January 1, 2011, certifications earned are valid for 3 years and must be renewed to remain valid after that, either by passing the most current exam for the certification or by earning credits through CompTIA’s upcoming continuing education program.
