Certification Summary:
For project management professionals.

Initial requirements: certification training requirement

You must possess a bachelor’s degree and have a minimum of 3 years/36 months project management experience during which at least 4,500 hours were spent leading and directing project tasks. Candidates who do not have a bachelor’s degree must have 5 years/60 months experience including 7,500 hours leading and directing tasks.

There is also be an education requirement - candidates have to submit details showing at least 35 hours of formal project management education.

You must also pass the PMP exam which covers project initiation, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, closing, and professional and social responsibility. Certification fees are $555 for non PMI members and $405 for members. Individual PMI membership costs $129.

Continuing requirements:
Must earn a minimum of 60 Professional Development Units of continuing education per 3 year cycle. A renewal fee of $150 for nonmembers and $60 for members will be charged once per cycle.
