Sun Launches OpenOffice Certifications
Thanks to Sun Microsystems, you can now get certified on OpenOffice, the popular open source office software suite that serves as an alternative to Microsoft Office. Sun is offering three OpenOffice designations: Sun Certified OpenOffice.org Writer Specialist, Calc Specialist, and Impress Specialist. Each of these is an end user level certification requiring passage of one exam. The exams each cost $90, contain 60 questions, and have a passing score of 65%. You can view exam blueprints on the Sun website.

Cisco Planning CCNA Voice Change June 24th
Cisco Systems says changes are in the works for the CCNA Voice certification. Starting on June 24th there will be two tracks available instead of one: A commercial and an enterprise option. The commercial option requires passing a new exam covering Cisco Unified Communications Manager 6.0 (exam 642 436), while the enterprise option will continue to use the current exam (exam 640 460) that covers the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express 4.1 (Cisco UME) and Cisco Unity Express (CUE) solutions. Also as of June 24th, CCNA Voice will become a prerequisite for the Cisco Certified Voice Professional (CCVP)certification. A Cisco FAQ discussing these changes has been posted.

CompTIA Project+ Beta Underway
CompTIA has announced that the new beta exam for its Project+ certification is available for free to the first 400 candidates to test or until July 30th, whichever comes first. You can sign up on the CompTIA website to obtain an exam voucher. Because this is a beta, score reports will not be available until the 4th quarter of 2009.

Newest Options from IBM
IBM has rolled out several new certifications over the past few weeks. New designations include IBM Certified Advanced Application Developer - Rational Application Developer v7, IBM Certified Solution Designer - Rhapsody in C++ for the Software Engineer, IBM Certified Solution Developer - InfoSphere QualityStage v8, and IBM Certified Advisor - Internet Security Systems Technical v1. As with most IBM certifications, each of these designations requires passing one test on the associated IBM solution.

That's all for this edition of Certification Watch. Please keep your certification news and tips coming to news@gocertify.com.
