Washington, D.C. (May 30, 2020) — The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) issued the following statement from David Logsdon, Senior Director of the Space Enterprise Council (SEC), regarding today's successful SpaceX launch and first-ever crewed mission.
"The next chapter in American space exploration has begun with today's landmark flight between NASA and SpaceX. Today's successful launch of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket marks America's long-awaited return to human space flight, as it blasts into orbit two NASA astronauts from U.S. soil in its Crew Dragon capsule to the International Space Station.
"This historic launch is a milestone for space flight and the first-ever of its kind to be carried out by a private commercial space company. It signifies a major turning point in a decade-long trend of the federal government increasingly ceding long-held responsibilities to the U.S. commercial space sector and paves the way for the increased privatization of space exploration.
"Not only does today's successful launch give us hope and inspiration at a time when it's sorely needed, it solidifies America's return to space and our role as a preeminent global space power."
