ISACA Launches New Course and Certificate Focused on NIST Cybersecurity Framework and COBIT

Schaumburg, Ill. (19 May 2020) — Security professionals seeking to manage and reduce cybersecurity risk at their organizations by using the Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) from the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) can now gain valuable insights into the framework and its implementation—and learn how to leverage COBIT while doing so—through a new course and certificate exam offered by ISACA.

After taking ISACA's Implementing the NIST Cybersecurity Framework Using COBIT® 2019 Course, individuals will be able to identify the CSF's goals, align their organization's cybersecurity efforts to the CSF, identify each of the seven CSF implementation steps and apply and evaluate them using COBIT 2019, outline the framework implementation information flow, and determine the appropriate scope and tier for their organization, among other key objectives.

The course also prepares security practitioners to take the Implementing the NIST Cybersecurity Framework Using COBIT® 2019 Certificate exam, allowing them to demonstrate their understanding and advance their professional development. The course and exam are designed for individuals who have a basic understanding of both COBIT 2019 and security concepts and who are involved in improving or building the cybersecurity program for their enterprises

The 90-minute, online proctored exam costs $275 and consists of 50 multiple-choice questions covering three key domains—overview of the Cybersecurity Framework (10%), Cybersecurity Framework structure (15%) and Framework implementation (75%). In order to take the exam, test-takers must have already successfully passed the COBIT 2019 Foundation exam. For COBIT 5 Foundation certificate holders, the COBIT 2019 Bridge Exam also serves as a prerequisite.

As one way to prepare for the certificate exam, ISACA is offering a virtual instructor-led training (VILT), "Implementing NIST Using COBIT 2019," on 22 May at 9:00 a.m. CDT / 2 p.m. UTC as part of its virtual North America CACS Conference. The VILT will cost $750 for members and $950 for non-members, and participants earn 7 CPE credits. Those who are interested in the topic can also learn more by reading the related book, Implementing the NIST Cybersecurity Framework Using COBIT 2019 and white paper, Governance Playbook: Integrating Frameworks to Tackle Cybersecurity and can find more detail about both here.
